The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

As any major prize-giving event draws close, you'll find a demand for introducing fresh award types to honor unsung work and satisfy the hearts of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: We need a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category in 2014
  • Another creative title was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, but the art in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles in the world and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier game development, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
