The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the struggle between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for materialism in Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top film adaptation of the disgraced televangelist and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield plays the greedy Jim, who declares early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple set about monetising the people's Christian beliefs. It's an extravaganza of tacky decor, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, though the lead actress manages to present the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. Tuesday 14 October, late night, Film4
