Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say initial examinations show the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the attack made him speechless and required to be resolved promptly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
